short stories

i have decided to go on a whirlwind short story tour.
so far, i've read john cheever, raymond carver and dave eggers. now i am reading flannery o'connor and grace paley.

any advice on what should be next?

and can i just say that the short story is perfect for 21st century short attention span on-the-go drinking too much caffeine people? i don't know if i can sit through a novel, but i sure as hell can read a short story. someone needs to tell america to read short stories - they are pocket-sized nuggets of thought-inducing chuckles and single tears.
