The American Psychological Association (APA) style was created by idiots for idiots. The style prides itself on vagueness and the inability to check one's citations. Instead of referencing specific page numbers, one can just say an author's last name and the year of publication. Because really when would you ever want to know a page number? Oh right, when you want to read more about what was said without having to read an entire freaking book! Why don't we just eliminate citations all together?
In APA style not only is author's first name not required, just the first initial, writing out the author's first name results in 1,000 lashes. In APA style, more information is bad, always. And the soft social sciences wonder why no one takes them seriously... maybe it's because you're using a stupid style of documentation?! Political science is taken more seriously because it uses real, legitimate forms like MLA or Chicago. So, education and psychology, how's about you starting to act like grown up researchers, who cite page numbers? Hmm? Ok.
For more information on the Harvard referencing (i.e. author-date citations, like APA uses), please see garden slug.
Also, can we ban endnotes and just use footnotes? I want to know what your tiny number mean, but I sure don't have the energy to turn to the back of the book or article.
Ok, end rant.

You tell 'em, baby.
Yes.
also, my professor last night said the author initial thing has to do with gender neutrality, but i totes call bullshit since at no time does anyone writing in apa make any effort to maintain gender neutrality.
